Marketing, especially in tech, feels repetitive today. On one side, there's generated and hype-driven content. On the other, overplayed strategies and clickbait hooks that waste people's time.

In The New Needs Friends we shared a vision for how media brands and storied worldbuilding can help redesign what attention is actually for: proliferating ideas worth thinking about.

Who we are

A few things that matter

  • You have a strong instinct for visual and verbal storytelling, a POV on where marketing conventions fall short, and ideas for what to do instead.

  • You're a practitioner. You can take responsibility for bringing concepts to life. You understand the nuance of production timelines, relationship management, and calm improvisation during inevitable setbacks.

  • You know when to create a thoughtful, custom experience and when to templatize a process. You don't reenact playbooks — you take swings, learn, and write your own.

  • You're comfortable building AI-native workflows that scale quality, not just output, and you track what's working and what isn't.

And a few that don't

The right person for this role might be a sharp creative operator or an eager generalist. We care less about your resume and more about your discernment. What matters more than being informed is being interested in figuring out how to make good things great.

What you'll actually do

  • Operations — You run the show. You’ll help bring the firm-level brand strategy to life, coordinate end-to-end internal logistics for key moments, and manage onboarding and activation of collaborators and cultural partners.

  • Production — Focus on relationship building. You'll own the editorial calendar and the execution behind it, helping our team share their ideas. You have the eye to apply editorial judgment and maintain a consistent brand voice and a recognizable look across social, video, print, and custom merch and events.

  • Media Creation & Amplification — You understand that great brand building isn't self-promotion but a championing of great ideas. You're a bridge builder, able to create content and nurture relationships with media, surfacing the right opportunities to our portcos and partners.
