The successful candidate’s role will be the Head of Compliance for Coinbase’s Irish entities (currently a regulated E-Money Institution and two registered VASPs). The role will manage Compliance in a high growth market for Coinbase and the Head of Compliance will directly shape regulatory strategy while balancing Compliance with innovation.
The role will fulfill Coinbase’s mission of being the most trusted cryptocurrency company by overseeing and managing all aspects of Coinbase’s Compliance programme in Ireland. In addition, the Head of Compliance will be responsible for managing the entity’s relationship with the Irish Regulator, Central Bank of Ireland, as well as providing strategic advisory to the Coinbase business and product teams on all types of Compliance issues including all relevant regulatory requirements. This role will be supported by Coinbase’s global Compliance infrastructure and will report to the Director of Compliance for EMEA.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Identify relevant regulatory requirements for Coinbase Ireland and ensure Coinbase’s ongoing compliance with the same, with a large focus on EMI and Consumer protection compliance.
- Keep ahead of regulatory developments in Ireland and Europe that could impact Coinbase’s business and deploy necessary changes to maintain compliance in partnership with internal stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates to Irish senior management and the Coinbase Ireland Board of Directors for the three Irish entities regarding the Compliance Programme and overall regulatory landscape. Ensure appropriate escalation of compliance incidents or material issues to Compliance and business leadership and the Board.
- Oversee / manage regulatory notifications, comment letters, and other communications as required. Handle day-to-day regulatory communications.
- Note. There role does not cover AML/CTF/Sanctions Compliance.
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- 8+ years experience in compliance (preferably in Ireland), including in senior leadership / management roles.
- Direct, first-hand knowledge of financial services and Compliance experience in an E-Money Institution Firm, plus knowledge of crypto regulations, including direct experience liaising with the Central Bank of Ireland, and/or other EU-equivalent regulatory bodies.
- Ability to independently manage day-to-day aspects of a Compliance Programme, including audits and exams.
- Experience in developing and administering internal controls and processes, proven track record of partnership and collaboration with remote, global teams.
- A professional compliance or finance qualification, and membership of a recognised professional body.
