Regulatory Compliance Associate
Coinbase
Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?
At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.
To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.
Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.
While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.
The Coinbase Australia Compliance team is responsible for ensuring CBAU meets its obligations as a regulated financial services entity and a virtual asset service provider. As a Regulatory Compliance Associate, you'll own the day-to-day execution of core regulatory functions, including disclosure governance, and financial resource monitoring — as CBAU launches regulated financial products for Australian customers. This role is critical to CBAU operating lawfully and sustainably under its AFSL, and you'll be building compliance operations from the ground up alongside a small, high-impact team.
What you'll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Help oversee and implement all aspects of Coinbase Australia’s regulatory compliance framework.
- Monitor Target Market Determinations (TMDs) and support Design and Distribution Obligations (DDO) governance, including reviewing distribution data and triggering TMD reviews where required.
- Maintain the regulatory breach register, coordinate breach assessments, and support reportable situation notifications to ASIC.
- Maintain structured records and audit trails consistent with AFSL licence conditions, RG 175, and the Corporations Regulations.
- Support preparation for ASIC regulatory engagement, including drafting responses to regulatory notices, compiling information for surveillance reviews, and maintaining engagement logs.
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- 3+ years of experience in a compliance, regulatory, or risk role within Australian financial services.
- Working knowledge of the Corporations Act 2001 (particularly Chapter 7 — Financial Services and Markets) and ASIC regulatory guidance.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform complex tasks accurately under time pressure.
- Effective written communication skills — you can draft regulatory correspondence, breach assessments, and internal reports that are clear and precise.
- Ability to work independently on BAU regulatory tasks while escalating appropriately when judgement calls arise.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment where processes are still being built — you'll help design workflows, not just follow them.
- Willingness to learn and innovate, particularly with AI tools.
Nice to haves:
- Experience in the digital assets, crypto, or fintech industry.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as GradDipACG (GIA), RG 146 compliance, or progress toward a CA/CPA.
- Experience with compliance monitoring tools, data analysis platforms, or automation of regulatory reporting workflows.
