The team
Our global Compliance team is redefining how compliance should be done - we challenge the norms and practices of the incumbent industry participants to identify ways to make Compliance at Kraken a competitive advantage. Our teams navigate the regulatory uncertainty and changing policy positions of global regulators and governments to help chart a path that ensures Kraken is successful in a truly dynamic industry.
In this role, you will be the driving force that spearheads collaboration between the Global Compliance team and our regional partners to enhance our ability to provide transparency into our programs while focusing on developments that are highly scalable and highly effective. You will work closely with each of our global functional teams, along with our Regional Compliance teams. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to assess and enhance our compliance controls, policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will be a crypto-native compliance professional with experience building a Monitoring Program (Quality Assurance and Testing) for a financial services company. This role also requires a deep understanding of the crypto regulations, risk assessment methodologies and the ability to collaborate across various departments. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills and the ability to drive a culture of compliance within an organization. Advanced knowledge of the crypto industry and experience using blockchain monitoring tools is desired.
The opportunity
Lead and manage the compliance monitoring team
Provide leadership and guidance to a team of compliance monitoring and testing professionals
Foster a culture of compliance, accountability and continuous improvement within the team
Develop, implement, and update a Monitoring Program (QA and Testing) for a global crypto exchange
Build procedures and implement QA for all lines of businesses (LOBs) and across various regional entities
Develop different testing methodologies and reporting for global and regional businesses to support management oversight
Management of the day-to-day operations of the QA program, including the maintenance of various procedures, tools and templates
Work cross functionally to develop workpapers and reporting structure to understand the effectiveness of the program, identify potential issues, and develop action plans
Support a strong compliance culture by identifying measures and monitoring adherence with applicable laws, regulations and rules that govern our business
Provide assistance including researching and root cause analysis of compliance related findings.
Conduct periodic reviews of key compliance controls and processes
Future responsibilities will include development and management of the day-to-day operations for a new Compliance Testing function. The role will include executing compliance testing procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of controls related to AML, KYC and other regulatory requirements
Produce deliverables identifying developments and opportunities for further building Kraken’s compliance program
Advise on and recommend improvements on business process, policy, and procedure, self-testing, or other controls based on observations during testing
Providing engagement reviews of compliance staff assisting with their reviews to facilitate growth and development of more junior staff members
Monitor changes in crypto regulations and recommend timely updates to internal policies and procedures
Compile and analyze monitoring and testing results and prepare comprehensive reports for senior management and regulatory authorities
Owning and driving key organizational projects from beginning to end
Skills you should HODL
4-8 years of prior experience in the financial industry; primarily with experience in a BSA/AML Testing function
Advanced knowledge of core AML compliance functions. (KYC, Transaction Monitoring, etc)
Experience with blockchain monitoring tools
Deep interest in / knowledge of the regulatory landscape as it relates to the crypto industry
Resourceful and inquisitive mindset with an ability to analyze structured and unstructured data from disparate sources and develop conclusions
Trustworthiness and ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to take ownership of your work product and consistently deliver results in a face-paced work environment
Eye for presentation design and attention to detail. Comfort with a high level of context switching
Nice to have
Minimum bachelor's degree; J.D., L.L.M., M.B.A. or other advanced degree
Crypto experience or prior experience with regulators
