The Team

Join our growing Regulatory Legal team (20 people) which works on matters such as licensing initiatives, regulatory advice and inquiries and product launches - all to further Kraken’s mission.

The Opportunity

  • The Deputy General Counsel, Regulatory will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and advocating for appropriate regulatory frameworks in the evolving crypto landscape in Europe and Asia Pacific

  • Reporting to the Global Head of Regulatory Strategy, this position will involve collaboration with cross-functional teams to navigate legal and regulatory challenges, mitigate risks, and support the company's strategic objectives

  • This leader will manage and grow a geographically distributed team of 8+ on day one and will be responsible for establishing clear and scalable working processes and procedures for the group

  • This individual will consult with the business & control functions on their legal obligations under the regulatory frameworks applicable to e-money, crypto and securities. They will build strong cross-functional relationships, especially with Compliance, Product, Operations, and Marketing

Skills you should HODL

  • 15+ years of relevant experience applying financial services regulations across multiple international jurisdictions, whether in-house at a financial institution, FinTech/digital asset business or in private practice

  • Exceptional soft skills - able to partner with stakeholders across all levels of the Product function and broader business and navigate competing priorities and ambitious growth plans

  • Advanced understanding of the regulatory landscape across key international jurisdictions such as the UK, European Union and Australia

  • Excellent project management, negotiation, drafting, and time management skills

  • Excellent judgment, analytic rigour, and business pragmatism and a strong team player who can bring out the best in people while working to tight deadlines

  • Deep curiosity and problem solving skills

  • Previous people management experience

Nice to haves

  • Experience advising the Regulatory function of a fast-growing FinTech or crypto business as in-house counsel

  • Prior experience supporting product launches from inception of an idea to launch in multiple countries simultaneously
