Proof of work

The team

The Growth Engagement team is a new, fast-moving squad focused on one thing: bringing users back and keeping them engaged. We build the systems behind rewards, re-engagement campaigns, referral programs, and conversion experiments that directly move revenue and retention metrics. Think push notifications that drive meaningful traffic, loyalty programs, gamification, and geo-expansion experiments — greenfield work with real impact.

As Tech Lead on the Growth Engagement team, you'll be the technical anchor for a small squad of 3–5 engineers — deeply hands-on in the code while providing the clarity and direction that keeps the team executing at pace. You'll own the technical foundation for a greenfield engagement platform, making early architectural decisions that will shape how we build rewards, notifications, and experimentation capabilities for years to come.

This role is for engineers who thrive in ambiguity, love building from scratch, and are energized by seeing their work directly move metrics. You're not a pure people manager — you're a technical leader who ships alongside your team.

This role is fully remote. We consider candidates in EU and EST US/LATAM timezones.

The opportunity

  • Own the technical direction and delivery for re-engagement and rewards systems — from push notification infrastructure to loyalty mechanics and gamification features.

  • Stay hands-on in the codebase, writing production-grade code and setting the bar for quality, reliability, and speed.

  • Make early architectural decisions for a greenfield system — designing for experimentation velocity and iterative growth.

  • Break down fast-moving initiatives from leadership into clear, executable plans your squad can ship in ~1-week cycles.

  • Partner with Product to scope and run experiments — referral optimization, geo-expansion, pricing mechanics, campaign infrastructure, and more.

  • Mentor and support engineers on your squad, growing their technical judgment and autonomy.

  • Collaborate with other engineering leads to ensure consistency and best practices across the broader Growth organization.

Skills you should HODL

  • Strong individual contributor background — you write production-grade code and lead by example.

  • Experience technically leading or coordinating a small team, squad, or project, whether formally or informally and day to day being involved in coding and outcomes of the team.

  • Deep proficiency in TypeScript (React / React Native) including mobile engineering and a broad knowledge of backend engineering including Rust, our core languages.

  • Comfort building in greenfield environments — you can make pragmatic early decisions without over-engineering.

  • A strong experimentation mindset — you're used to shipping fast, measuring impact, and iterating.

  • A product mindset — you care about retention and revenue metrics, not just engineering output.

  • Strong communication skills; you can translate fast-moving leadership direction into clear technical plans.

  • Comfort operating autonomously in a remote-first, distributed environment.

Nice to haves

  • Experience building engagement systems: push notifications, email re-engagement, referral programs, loyalty or rewards platforms.

  • Background in gamification, incentive mechanics, or campaign infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with experimentation frameworks and A/B testing at scale.

  • Exposure to infrastructure and tooling such as Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Redis, or GitLab CI/CD.

  • Experience in a high-growth environment where pace and adaptability were essential.

How You Lead

  • You lead through technical clarity — setting direction, sharing context, and empowering your squad to ship fast with confidence.

  • You mentor through doing — your code, decisions, and process set the bar for those around you.

  • You communicate proactively, translating leadership priorities into actionable direction for your team.

  • You model ownership and accountability — when the team ships a win, you made it possible.

We know that great engineers come from many backgrounds. If you're excited about the mission but don't meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply.

Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.

We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.

Kraken is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate all Krakenites for their diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions and unique perspectives. We hire strictly based on merit, meaning we seek out the candidates with the right abilities, knowledge, and skills considered the most suitable for the job. We encourage you to apply for roles where you don't fully meet the listed requirements, especially if you're passionate or knowledgable about crypto!

We may ask candidates to complete job-related skills or work-style assessments as part of our hiring process. These assessments are designed to evaluate competencies relevant to the role and are applied consistently across candidates for similar positions. Assessment results are considered alongside other relevant information, such as experience and interviews, and are not the sole basis for any employment decision.

As an equal opportunity employer, we don’t tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind. Whether that’s based on race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, citizenship, religion, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, veteran status or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, state or local laws.
